Naganuma school: history
Naganuma language school, or the Tokyo School of the Japanese Language, was the first Japanese language school for foreigners ever established in Japan, and also the first school to produce texts for foreigners to learn Japanese. Naoe Naganuma wrote his earliest texts before World War Two; the Allies used these same materials to great effect during the war training intelligence officers in Japanese.
The school has kept to Naoe Naganuma's philosophy of keeping up to date in teaching methods and has of course updated his texts since those days. The school, established in 1948, is still run by the Naganuma family and provides high-quality courses in the Japanese language from its Shibuya base.
Recognition
Naganuma is of course a fully accredited member of the APJLE (membership number 5021), and has pushed for improved standards in Japanese language education for many years. Not content with simply following the pack, Naganuma has been proactive in seeking new means to promote Japanese language education and to improve methods since its inception.
The Naganuma School is an Edutraveller partner institution, and Edutraveller recommends the school for the high quality of its programs and teaching.
The following is a summary of the school: see each section for full details by clicking the links below or use the menu on the left to navigate.

One of the main strengths of the Naganuma School is their texts. Developed in-house, the teaching staff not only know their materials well, they also developed the texts.
