The Yamasa Institute
The Yamasa Institute's Aichi Center for Japanese Studies (ACJS) is a non-profit Japanese language school located in Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture, just 30 minutes from Nagoya. The Yamasa Institute is an accredited language school, and can offer private lessons or group courses from four weeks in duration up to two years. The school itself has been offering Japanese language programs since 1989, but is backed by the Hattori Foundation, a local philanthropic organisation that has been involved in education in the area since 1911.
Facilities
The Yamasa Institute prides itself on its high-quality facilities, experienced and professional staff, perhaps the best IT facilities of any Japanese Language School, and fully owned accommodation within walking distance of the school. It guarantees accommodation for all students, and has an active homestay and homevisit program.
An extensive multilingual web site offers full details of all the Yamasa Institute's facilities, accommodation, courses, and includes online application forms, and emails can handled in English, Japanese, Chinese, and Korean.
Courses
The Yamasa Institute offers the widest selection of Japanese language courses of any school in the country. From four weeks to two years, with start dates every two weeks, you can study when and how long you want. Programs are all intensive, with native-speaker teachers and small class sizes. The short-term SILAC program is available for 4, 6, 8, 10 or 12-week periods, starting every 2 weeks. Intensive studies on the Acceleration program for 4, 8 or 12-week periods are also possible for those who want a high-speed boost to their Japanese proficiency.
Activities
The Yamasa Institute offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities, and their Discovery program offers an excellent way to experience Japan and learn the language - you can combine a SILAC program study component of 4, 6, 8, or 10 weeks with a tour of 5, 8 or 10 days. Destinations include Kyoto, Tokyo, Nara, Ise, and many more - each course is different. See the Yamasa program catalogue for more details (link below). The website is available in 13 languages, including English, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, German, and more.
