Culture

The main reason people travel is to find out something about somewhere a little different. One of the problems with Japan is that to access that difference, you have a language barrier to overcome. It is possible though to enjoy Japanese culture without much effort - all you need is an open mind, and the Japanese, like any other nation, are always more than happy to share their culture with anyone who shows an interest. Here we introduce a little of the art and culture of Japan, but of course, the best way to appreciate the difference is to experience it.

Religion

O-matsuri

Perhaps on of the most enduring aspects of old Japan is the matsuri, or festival. Taking part in one of these, or just going to see, can be the highlight of any Japan tour.

Arts and crafts

There are many arts and crafts, practiced in Japan for centuries, that you can try out. As a break from temples, jinja and castles, try your hand at something creative.
